How does meiosis maintain a constant # of chrosomes in the body cells of organisms that reproduce ually?

meiosis produces haploid cells. this means that each cell only ends up with half of the original amount of dna it had to start off with. then when the egg is fertilized by a sperm, the two halves come together and make one diploid (or full amount of chromosomes) cell. this is why you get half of your dna from your mom and your dad.
