Can i claim money back from my landlord due to a fault in my electrics that was not my fault?

Your landlord should have a certificate for all electric and gas appliances in the premises every year and if he cannot produce them then you need to ask him to repay you the money or take the matter up with your local authority as he should be a registered landlord with them. Speak to the landlord first and try and resolve the problem with them first but you do have protection as a private tenant so if you cannot resolve the problem with the landlord then i would approach your local authority or CAB office to get further advice in your local area.
